Abstract: Compared with object-oriented programming, agent-oriented programming provides higher level abstraction and encapsulation. The software agents are autonomous entities with abilities to adapt the changing environments. An example of carrying out a circuit breaker maintenance work order has been used to illustrate the flexibility and advantages of agent-oriented programming. They are detailed agent-oriented design idioms to describe MAS architectures as composed of autonomous agents that interact and coordinate to achieve their intentions, like actors in human organizations. This chapter presents social patterns and focuses on a framework aimed to gain insight into these patterns.
